500 kilometres by bike from Caen (France) to Brussels – The European Economic and Social Committee is cycling for the European elections

To raise awareness of the importance of voting at the upcoming European elections, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will organise a cycling event across France and Belgium from Wednesday 1 May to Saturday 4 May 2024.

Headed by EESC member Bruno Choix from the Employers' Group, the group of EESC members and staff will travel from Caen (France) to Brussels over 4 days, covering a total of 500 km.

Wednesday 1 May 2024       Caen > Forges-les-Eaux

Thursday 2 May 2024           Forges-les-Eaux > Douai

Friday 3 May 2024                Douai > Waterloo

Saturday 4 May 2024            Waterloo > EESC headquarters, Brussels

The group is expected to arrive at the EESC's headquarters on Saturday 4 May 2024 at around 11 a.m.

On that same day, people are welcome to join the EESC members and staff for the final stretch, from Waterloo to Brussels, or to join them along the way.

The departure from Waterloo is scheduled at 10 a.m. The meeting point is set for 9:30 a.m. at Waterloo, Route du Lion 367. Cyclists will travel this route.

The Brussels Capital police informed us that participants will be considered as the thousands of cyclists who circulate every day in the Brussels Region and recommended to respect the Highway Code!

This initiative is part of the EESC's Open Day, taking place on Saturday 4 May 2024 at the EESC's headquarters (Jacques Delors building, 99 Rue Belliard, 1040 Brussels). The Committee is opening its doors to the public from 10:00 to 18:00 and is organising a number of activities to inform and raise awareness about the EESC and the 2024 European elections.
